School Security Guard Certification                         SB 1626 ED. CODE 38001.5

This is a 24 hour training course which meets and exceeds California Department of Consumer Affairs - Bureau of Security and Investigative Services (BSIS) and California Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) requirements for security guards working at school and college districts. This course meets the training requirements mandated by SB 1626 for Campus Security Personnel as defined in Education Code 38001.5 and 72330.5 and Business and Professions Code 7583.31.

This class is limited to public safety, campus safety, campus supervisors, school security, school safety personnel assigned to school districts (K-12); California Community College Districts. Students will learn the following topics:

FIREARM PERMIT TRAINING & RANGE

You may not carry a gun on duty without having been issued a firearm permit by the Bureau. Also, a firearm permit issued by the Bureau does not authorize you to carry a concealed weapon. You may not carry a concealed weapon on duty without a Concealed Weapons Permit (CCW) issued by local authorities, nor carry a caliber handgun not listed on your firearm permit. 

 The 14-hour (8 hours classroom, 6 hours range) training course covers moral and legal aspects, firearms nomenclature, weapon handling and shooting fundamentals, emergency procedures and range training. The course must be given by a Bureau-certified firearms training instructor at a Bureau

certified training facility. Written and range exams are administered at the end of the course. 

Note: A firearms qualification card expires two years from the date it was issued. An applicant must re-qualify four times during the life of the permit: twice during the first year after the date of issuance, and twice during the second year. Re-qualifications must be at least four months apart.

BSIS FIREARM SEMI-ANNUAL REQUALIFICATION TRAINING & RANGE

As a condition for renewal of a BSIS firearm permit, the permit holder must complete four range qualifications (two qualifications in each year, no sooner than four months apart) during the two-year period the firearm permit is valid. Prior to each of the four qualifications, the permit holder must complete a two-hour training course on the use of deadly force and avoidance of deadly force. As a result, the firearm permit holder should have also completed a total of four of the two-hour training courses at the time of renewal with the written exam on the fourth qualification.

This course satisfies the California BSIS Firearm Card requirement that Security Guard re-qualify semi-annually.Upon successful completion of this course of fire, documentation to prove course completion will be provided to the attendee.

NOTE: If the attendee completes all of their four required semi-annual re-qualifications courses with two hour refresher course, and passes the written exam on the fourth qualification and re-qualification course of fire, American Academy of Protective Training will provide, to the attendee, the historical documentation required for renewal of the attendees Firearms Permit.

This course is for those shooters wishing to qualify with a SINGLE Caliber. If qualifying with multiple calibers you must also shoot and qualify for each caliber. Additional qualification fee of $25.00 per caliber applies. You must pay for any range fees and ammunition required.
